  1. Hey is it possible to have some more Galaxy Note videos?

    ReplyDelete
  2. I agree with the previous poster. More galaxy note videos. Possibly a complete tutorial of what you have done to your note form the start. So if you rooted, how you did it? And an accessory round up. What accessories you use and where you got them from. I just got my note on Saturday and am lost as to what i can do with it. I know there's so much i could do i dont know were to start.

    2. Seconded. If you would make the complete tutorial (or a series), could you attach a blog post to it? I'm sure after watching your video, one would find it easier to follow the steps you have taken through written, numbered text rather than constantly replaying the video. Of course, it's just a pet peeve, but it would be seriously helpful, in my opinion.

I have been a Note owner since January, and I can't help but think it's quite slow now, and it's starting to get on my nerves. My Note is stock, unrooted. I haven't changed anything on it. Then again, I should probably wait till the official ICS update comes out and see how well it holds up to its name.

Thanks in advance :) Great videos.

    3. Hey There, well first of all my phone is not rooted (waiting for ICS before I do that again) and I have a video for newcomers here:

      And an accessory video here:

      Both thanks to your post!

    4. James - hi. They really are great YouTube vids on the Samsung Galaxy Note - far better than anything else out there - and I know - I've watched most of them! :O)

The main thing I haven't seen in any vid is using the Note to view/read downloaded digital editions of magazines. And - do all the pop-ups, PDF reading, video viewing, (and particularly the "page turning technology")etc , of a digital magazine produced for an Android tablet format - are they still compatible/east to view/use on the Note? And - how much of those features are operated by "finger touch" activity as they would be on a "normal" tablet - or do you have to use the S-pen instead?

These questions even Samsung's corporate "Help Desk" wasn't able to answer!

So, I guess what I'm asking is - "Would you be able to produce a video showing suing a digital magazine being viewed/read on a Note?" - or is it just easy to tell me here? :O)

Just to repeat - great videos! And I'm glad you've taken the time to share your knowledge and skills to help others.

I'm about to upgrade my smartphone in a few days time and thought the Note would save me getting a tablet as well. (Oh yes - the video showing the accessories for the Note was great as well!).

Keep up the good work! :O)

    5. Wow, what a question! Well I've had a brief search and the best thing i've found is "Zinio" It works very well on the note. The only "problems" are:

No page animations and I am yet to find a magazine with multimedia integration such as videos etc.

There are tiny tiny differences between the "tablet" mode and "phone mode" which is what the galaxy note shows up with (the main one being there are little images displayed under the categories menu). The Note can be forced into tablet mode on ICS by changing the dpi.

I'll keep looking for better readers, but if you have any in mind, just let me know :)

      Cheers!

    6. James- hi.

I knew it was a great question - and you've supplied an excellent first rate answer - which is far more than Samsung, Apple, or Zinio have done with the same query! (I had found out about Zinio - I think the world's biggest digital edition distributor, and certainly the biggest for Android phones).

I borrowed my brother's ipad-2 today to see which magazines had videos etc in them - BBC Focus is an excellent example. I downloaded the Nov 2011 issues, (which was £3.99 I think) - and it was rammed full with videos, extra pages and all the other "pinch and zoom" technology. (Actually - is "pinch and zoom" possible on the Note?)

How did you manage to download the Zinio App to the Galaxy Note? I thought that the Zinio App, (for Android phones), was on available through the Google Apps Marketplace App. BUT when I looked in the list of phones which the Google Apps Marketplace App was compatible with - neither the Samsung Galaxy Note nor the Samsung Galaxy SII is on the list of compatible phones which I can use the Google Apps Marketplace on? (I may be confused over this?)

If the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy SII are not on the list of compatible phones that can be used with Google Apps - how were you able to download the Zinio app to view digital magazines?

And thanks very much for all your help with this James. You've provided a great product review and superb "after review service"...lol.. if you can call it that. (You should stick a Paypal button on your page for donations!)

Thanks again and hopefully you can help me out with my one or two final queries.

      Paul

    7. James - hello again!

I've managed to find out my query about Zinio - it comes pre-installed as part of the "Readers Hub". Also, whilst out quizzing my local phone mobile phone shop employees - the regional Samsung rep walked in - HURRAH! - and he gave me a quick walk through which included looking at downloaded digital magazines via Zinio. (They are doing a mall "demo" over the next few days where I can go and get a FREE CASE - nice.)

So I've just upgraded over the phone - and a lovely WHITE GALAXY NOTE should be arriving tomorrow.

I'll keep watching your YouTube channel for any more updates.

Thanks again for all your help.

      Paul

Are you "Kaiviti"? I reckon you are. You are very good at what you do! I have watched quite a lot of U tube stuff to do with phones and tech but yours is really informative, hands on, interesting, straight to the point and most of all non-commercial. I reckon you have a big future in this area. Keep it coming man! Thumbs up for the good work.

  9. YEAH, so here I am, bam! i just digg your vids man keep up. now, from where i see it: u got skills for the kill. so my suggestion is: since all your vids r more or less correlated, am talkin bout the Gnote, i think u ought to make a periodical summary video every, u choose when, week, month, trimestral...to sum up all topics, reviews etc. u can call it GN 1st level, GN 2nd level and so on or whatever...cause i really think u can really bring extras to this device and it would be very useful to guys like me that sometimes just dont know what to do with this device but love it and would like to see it grow n grow with our confidence of it.

YESSIR, and am outta here, bam! ;)

    1. Hi there Nimesh,

I have rooted my phone before and it is 100% safe, but at the moment it is unrooted (I've updated the firmware)

And i've tried an external with no success :(

I had a couple of micro scratches on my screen, that's why I got a screen protector.

It should be fine if you're careful apparently it is gorilla glass but I somehow still scratched it :/

Good luck and enjoy your Note when it arrives!

  14. Hello James:
My Name is Mahmoud, Iam from Egypt and I love your tutotials on Galaxy note so much

I suggest a video tutorial about prolonging the battery life (what to do and what not to do, applications we should avoid as they are battery eaters, other applications that extend the battery .... etc)

I saw your video "The Ultimate List Of Apps To Customize Your Phone" and I saw your battery life was wow (1d 11h 12m) and still have 15% battery

I bought my Note a weak ago, and my battery lasts for 6 hours :(
So could you please reply with a quick guide ASAP, and if you like the idea you may post a video tutorial about it

    Thanks and Respects :)

    1. Hey there Mahmoud

Okay, the biggest killers of battery (apart from gaming) are apps that require a constant feed of data updates over your 3g network. Eg the facebook app. It's just not worth it, I found that it really cut down my battery life.

Are there any such apps installed on your phone? That might be part of the problem, if not, i'll try and do a video with some recommendations :)

      Cheers!

    1. Thanks for the reply James, amd yes you are right .. most of the applications sneak in the back and keep running even if you kill them, they keep coming.
One thing I did that really made a change in my battery life is shutting off 3G (WIFI doesnot consume that much battery, so it is better).. and I uninstalled all battery saving programs as they -themselves- are battery eaters.

Anyways, I am waiting for that video of yours :)
      Thanks a lot

  17. Yo james! I can't remember where you commented this but you said that you were holding off rooting your note untill ICS comes out. Could you possibly do a video (when they eventually decide to officially release ICS for the note) on:
    a) how to root the coldfustion way
    b) what are the benefits of rooting the note
I am realy new to android so know nothing about it appart from it's similar to jailbreaking.

I'll make a quick video about the benefits of rooting. But the way it's done depend on your ROM though. I might make a general method for the stock ROM.

    1. Hey there! I would definitely get that sent in. Flickering of any kind is a bit of a worry. If it only happens when unlocking the phone it indicates something to do with the CPU waking up.

      Hope that helps!

  19. Hi James! First off, incredible work on ur vids especially th one with UI customization (tht u did almost a year ago) and the one where u explain how to use the Note as a PC. Insane!!

I guess u can do most of those things using th Go launcher as well which is now my favourite launcher (ton of features and absolutely smooth)

I was using a SGS 1 all this while and am upgrading to the SGN 2 this month.. Extremely excited abt it :)

Wat I wanna request from u is a detailed review of the SGN2 (I kno u r gonna get one too) stressing less on th specs (lets face it, most of us kno tht already) and more on how u can make it more beautiful and maybe some cool apps to go with it.

    Cheers!

P.S: the bg music tht u have compiled is some crazy stuff!! and there is a sense of calm ambiance in ur vids which is pretty awesome for me :)
Keep up th good work :)

I have been a big fan of your work, and I thought it would be best to address this question to you, since an answer for it has eluded me for long. How do I select a wallpaper in landscape mode??? I have a wallpapers in my phone that are widescreen, and I want to use them that way, which the Note 2 doesn't allow me to. It would be great if you could drop me an email with a solution. I hope it is not too much to ask for.

  25. Heya,

    REQUEST PLEASE..... :)

After much searching, i have not yet found a great app for incoming Message alerts.
What i mean by this is, when you have a new Message, your phones display goes on for 5 to 10 seconds, shows you that you have 2 mails maybe with subject lines, 5facebook messages, 2 twitter messages etc etc.. i mean the most important feature on a phone would be to display messages easily, swipe them away to read later etc etc.

Thank you for showing us the relaunch app, its revolutionized the way i use my phone, pure bliss!

Thanks again for putting much effort into your work, it shows!
